Meet Roger

I was born in the Adelaide Hills and grew up on an apple orchard in the area. I have a deep understanding of the lifestyle and culture of the Hills, and I am happy to share my knowledge with our guests. I have also worked in the area, so I am familiar with some of the hidden secrets of the Adelaide Hills.

As an avid golfer, I have caddied for both amateur and professional golfers. I highly recommend taking a turn on the fairways of the Mt Barker and Hahndorf Golf Club during your time in Adelaide.

Some of my passions include skiing and snowboarding. I have even worked as a ski instructor in Canada. My ultimate goal is to experience the thrill of riding a bobsled down a track. I have skied with some of the best in the world, including members of the Australian and Canadian Olympic teams.

Despite my love of travelling, Australia will always be my home, and I think Adelaide is a wonderful place to live. 

Meet Di

As a young girl, I grew up enjoying the pleasures of both the seaside and the country. Growing up in Grange, I had the best of both worlds when my love of the outdoors was bolstered by spending many school holidays in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia on a family friend’s farm which provided endless adventures and experiences.

As a young adult, I moved to Whyalla for a year then on to Ceduna on the Far West Coast of South Australia. Ceduna became my home for nearly 20 years, and it was where I had my two beautiful daughters. It was a great experience and I was very involved in the community, doing volunteer and committee work in addition to my paid job.

Being considered more of a “Tom Boy,” my love of the outdoors led me to explore places and interests not typically considered “feminine.” This love of adventure has taken me to many isolated places, but my ‘expedition style’ voyage to Antarctica and camping on the ice is still a highlight.

My working life has spanned many areas but the transition into touring allows me to use many of my previous experiences in a fun and less structured way, which means it never seems like work!

We were lucky enough to be recommended Roger from Ambler Touring, for our customised McLaren Vale wine tour. With a convenient pick-up and drop-off from our Aldinga accomodation. We knew we couldn't get through a long day of tastings without a coffee stop, and Roger had already read our minds! Straight to a coffee roaster. 🙌🏻 Roger was highly professional with excellent knowledge of the area, recommending wineries and distilleries between our scheduled tastings. We did a Winery and Farm Tour and Dianne was our guide, she was so friendly and accommodating and made our day so pleasant. There was a rough itinerary planned for us that our Family had organised as a surprise birthday gift and it was no problem to change a few of our destinations as we toured the Barossa Region. A perfect day rounded out with an awesome guide 5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommended.

What an absolute treat it was to have Roger as our private driver to the McLaren Valley this weekend. He was professional, knowledgeable & an absolute gentleman. Roger tailor-made our tour to fit our tastes. We covered vineyards, wine tasting, chocolate, cheese, history of the area, scenic stops and more. He was friendly and well-informed, didn't rush us at any point. Pick-up and drop-off at our accommodation. Would highly recommend.

Wanted to say Thankyou to Ambler Touring for making my trip to Adelaide so special. it was good to see the surrounding areas, this tour took me through McLaren Vale, a particular big Thankyou to my driver Di. Di is a local and shared lots of information and history about the area, was friendly and attentive and took me into wineries and art galleries I would never think of going myself or knew existed which is the point of going on a tour with a local :-) my personal favourite was Taranga Winery, the rose and grenache outstanding with a dozen delivered to QLD address no problem, the day tour ended with a loop around Adelaide beaches and return to city. Adelaide is well worth a visit & look around, Adelaide city pleasant & easy to navigate with its North, South, East and West terraces, a guided walk around botanic gardens with an amazing cacti display & glasshouse, ate at Restaurant Botanic and would go again, need to book ahead through, a trip to Kangaroo Island and got to see the stunning Fleurieu Peninsula down to Cape Jervis along the way, all this is possble in few days, 5/7 days perfect. Just do it.

I wanted to explore the region around Adelaide during my recent visit to South Australia. Luckily I selected Ambler Touring for my customized day trip through the Adelaide Hills. Roger, who organized and led the visit, is a South Australia native with so much personal experience and local knowledge to impart. We started with a hotel pickup and headed first for Stirling, a lovely community with great local produce and product sellers. I opted for the chocolate experience at Red Cacao, which is a lovely spot popular with locals and full of delicious treats. We continued to Cleland Wildlife Park in Craters; you will thank yourself for time spent here, particularly if you’re at all interested in the unique fauna. We fed some of the small marsupials, and I was able to do a meet and greet with a koala. It’s a beautiful place and so special for someone from outside Australia. We even spotted some animals in the wild - sort of a bucket list item for me! Roger imparted tons of local history, showing some of the beautiful estates (many converted to inns) and selecting a great Aussie pub for the lunch (included in the tour package I selected). We visited the picturesque Hahndorf, where I had some time to explore shops on my own before taking the scenic route through the eastern suburbs of Adelaide. Roger gave me some other Adelaide highlights and tons of recommendations for other trips to take in the future on another trip to Australia. It was a great value - highly personalized and stress-free (no driving or navigating needed on my part). Please do consider visiting the Adelaide Hills if your plans call for a trip to the South Australian capital.

Adelaide and about Roger was great to deal with by phone in picking our first tour , to Murray River and lunch cruise with several stops there and back . We were picked up by Di our chauffeur and guide who explained all the localities we visited , she was prepared to stop anywhere we wanted to ( only us on tour ) and suggested places that she felt would suit our interests . We booked a second day trip , again just 2 of us to the coast with an excellent lunch at Flying Fish restaurant and a first class winery tasting at Olivers Taranga ( McLaren Vale 0 , a look at the Dali sculptures at D'Arenberg and other stops suiting our interests. Great day trip, would HIGHLY recommend! We recently had the pleasure of experiencing a private wine tour in the beautiful Barossa Valley with Di from Ambler Touring. We were provided with a number of great recommendations but were able to fully customise our itinerary. We chose to visit a diverse selection of wineries inbcluding Yaldara, Yalumba, Rusden and Seppeltsfield Road Distillers, allowing us to appreciate the different styles and nuances of Barossa Valley wines, as well as a stop at the Maggie Beer Farm for lunch, and a number of lookouts and points of interest in the region. Our lovely guide Di had an expert knowledge of the local area, and made this tour an unforgettable experience. We were not only treated to an array of outstanding wines but also given insights into the region's unique history and culture. Di's attention to detail and warm, friendly demeanor made us feel well looked after, and she ensured we had a fantastic and memorable day out. She even bought us cookies! Our tour in the Barossa Valley was an absolute delight and we would happily book with Ambler again to try some of the venues we missed. We highly recommend this experience to anyone seeking a truly immersive and memorable wine journey in one of Australia's most renowned wine regions. Adelaide Hills Day Out A fantastic day out exploring the Adelaide Hills. Di was great - heaps of knowledge about the area. We started with a visit to Mt Lofty and then morning tea at Red Cacao. A winery visit then Hahndorf Village for some shopping. We followed this with another winery, Beerenberg Farm and then a cheese place. All in all - a great day checking out the gorgeous Adelaide Hills.

First class experience. Great Day in McLaren Vale. Di was just wonderful. So helpful when plans were changed last minute. Exceptional professionalism and a customised winery tour. Di suggested some first class wineries which were all amazing. Such a fun day in beautiful surroundings.
